The SSCI Benchmark recognises third-party sustainability auditing, certification, and monitoring standards that meet the industry’s expectations for how sustainability should be covered and operate responsibly.

The SSCI currently benchmarks social and environmental compliance standards operated by schemes and programmes working in the Manufacturing and Processing, Primary Production, At-Sea Operations, and Forestry sectors.

As it “verifies the verifiers”, the SSCI awards an additional, yet essential, layer of trust to standards that demonstrate alignment with the SSCI Criteria and achieve SSCI Recognition. 

As SSCI-Recognised standards, third-party auditing, monitoring, and certification schemes and programmes signal a strong commitment to raising the bar in their certification processes and driving harmonisation in a diverse field of sustainability standards.

As part of its commitment to providing transparency, the SSCI seeks public comments on its benchmarking requirements prior to their publication and on applicant schemes and programmes during their evaluations.
