Forests are vital for life on Earth, providing food, air, water, and regulating our climate. Yet, deforestation and ecosystem conversion continue to degrade nearly 30% of global land, contributing to around 10% of climate change.
The Consumer Goods Forum’s Forest Positive Coalition is driving faster and more decisive action to eliminate deforestation and conversion from global supply chains.
We are pleased to announce the release of the Forest Positive Coalition’s 2024 Highlights Report, showcasing measurable progress, addressing ongoing challenges, and sharing insights into the next steps toward a forest positive future.
Key Achievements in 2024
The Forest Positive Coalition achieved significant milestones this year:
- 83% of members reported on their commitments to Deforestation- and Conversion-Free (DCF) supply chains, with substantial progress across key commodities:
- 83% of palm oil
- 75% of soy
- 75% of beef
- 62% of paper, pulp and fibre-based packaging (PPP)
Transparency of member reporting improved, with 74% of members disclosing performance against key KPIs, up from 68% in 2023.
These achievements reflect our commitment to transparency and accountability, hallmarks of our mission to create real, measurable change. However, challenges remain, particularly in addressing supply chain complexities, such as embedded soy and indirect cattle suppliers.
Transparency and Accountability at the Core
Transparency is the foundation of our work. Open and consistent reporting drives progress, and this year’s highlights report details each Coalition member’s advancement toward DCF commitments.
As Wai-Chan Chan, Managing Director of The Consumer Goods Forum, states:
“Forests are essential for maintaining life on Earth. Greater transparency, accountability, and collaboration are critical to driving the pace and scale of change needed—and this report clearly demonstrates the measurable progress we are making.”
Our enhanced KPI reporting page now offers stakeholders access to detailed company profiles and KPIs ensuring accountability and fostering continuous improvement.
Collaborating for Systemic Change
Collaboration is central to achieving a forest positive future. In 2024, the Forest Positive Coalition engaged with over 250 stakeholders, including governments, local communities, NGOs, and business leaders. Additionally, we expanded our landscape initiatives, with 26 active projects focused on conserving and restoring ecosystems while supporting local communities.
These efforts are critical to transforming commodity supply chains and scaling sustainable landscapes, but broader industry participation is essential to maximise their impact.
Looking Ahead: Scaling Innovation and Impact
While we celebrate our progress, challenges remain. Moving forward, we will:
- Scale successful initiatives and traceability technologies
- Deepen partnerships with stakeholders
- Continue addressing complex supply chain challenges to achieve forest positive goals
The journey toward deforestation- and conversion-free supply chains is far from over, but together, we can drive systemic change, ensuring global supply chains actively contribute to forest conservation and ecosystem restoration.

What Our Partners Say
“Change is hard. And we know that cleaning up individual supply chains is hard enough but not enough. Sectoral transformation is even more complex, but that is the very reason to collaborate and act together. We need sectoral transformation that creates a shift in ‘business as usual’ to drive real change for people and places where we source commodities.
This is the only long-term solution. In the meantime, we need to recognise progress, both the individual excellence that can be achieved, showing what is possible and creating ambition, and the smaller incremental steps that demonstrate initial impact and reduces the gap to reach best practice. This year’s annual report for the CGF Forest Positive Coalition does both – showcasing best practice and collective ambition, as well as recognising small steps, while acknowledging that there is still a lot more to do.” – Ruth Nussbaum, Executive Director, Global and Europe
