- Uniting CEOs from many of the world’s largest companies, the CGF is a unique force for catalysing positive changes that benefit people, planet and business.
- Despite economic pressures and supply chain disruptions, CGF’s Coalitions of Action and Acceleration Areas have provided a vital platform to strengthen industry resilience, improve operational efficiencies and foster deeper collaboration.
As a CEO-led organisation that pioneers sustainability and innovation across the global consumer goods industry, the CGF is committed to action that benefits people, the planet and businesses. Faced with urgent global challenges, the collective expertise and agility provided by its members have become even more valuable. The CGF’s unique combination of CEO leadership and global reach means it is a powerful force for achieving lasting positive impacts, which remain crucial amid a turbulent and challenging external environment.
Wai-Chan Chan, Managing Director of The Consumer Goods Forum, said: “The past year has been defined by change; economic pressures, supply chain disruptions and shifting consumer expectations have tested businesses worldwide. Yet our members have demonstrated remarkable adaptability and innovation. Through participation in the CGF, we have collectively seen improved operational efficiencies and built a stronger sector. We look forward to fostering further collaboration among members and the wider industry as we countdown to the CGF’s annual Global Summit in June.”
The CGF is a powerful force for ensuring better lives through better business, and its Co-Chairs are focused on mobilising even greater member action around five ‘Acceleration Areas’, designed to speed up the systemic change continuously driven by the CGF’s Coalitions. These Acceleration Areas are: enhancing employee health and well-being; ensuring human rights in supply chains; advancing packaging circularity; promoting deforestation-free supply chains; and moving forward on decarbonisation.
Frans Muller, CGF Board Co-Chair and President & CEO, Ahold Delhaize, remarked: “The past year has not just been about numbers; it has been about culture. At the CGF, we have seen a remarkable shift toward deeper collaboration and open dialogue among our members. It was inspiring to witness CEOs and industry leaders at the Chicago Summit openly discuss not just their successes but their struggles, too. That honesty has ignited new ideas and reaffirmed the collective strength of our industry when we work together.”
The CGF also introduced new ways to engage smaller companies and regions that have not been as represented in the past. Whether through regional retailer sessions in Latin America and Asia or more flexible participation models, we are making it easier than ever for everyone to have a voice and make a difference. ”
Dirk Van de Put, CGF Board Co-Chair and Chairman & CEO of Mondelēz International, added: “Looking back on the past year, we have much to be proud of. After launching the Acceleration Areas in our first year as Co-Chairs, we were able to watch these action-focused initiatives come into their own in 2024. They have opened the door for even more members — big and small — to get involved. With increased company participation and measurable KPIs now in place, we are building a framework for lasting impact.”
As the CGF looks to another year of driving even faster industry progress, its fourth annual report – created in partnership with KPMG – is part of the organisation’s commitment to transparency. By shining a light on where change is happening and where even greater action is needed, the aim is to keep pushing forwards progress across the global consumer goods community.
The CGF’s 2024 Achievements Included:
- Addressing forced labour through the People Positive Palm Oil Project’s impact on the Malaysian palm oil industry, supporting participating suppliers to implement robust human rights due diligence systems.
- Together with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Food Waste Coalition developed the Global Farm Loss Tool. This web-based platform assists farmers in measuring food loss hotspots and understanding the underlying causes. The Food Waste Coalition supported the tool’s beta testing with their growers, ensuring its practicality and effectiveness across diverse agricultural contexts.
- Building a new generation of industry trailblazers through the Future Leaders Programme, with 85% of participants applying insights to their leadership practices, particularly in areas like cultural transformation, storytelling and strategic decision making.
