The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI) is pleased to announce that SIZA, the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa, completed its annual Monitoring of Continued Alignment process, required for maintaining its SSCI Recognition. SIZA’s social standard was successfully benchmarked against the SSCI Benchmarking Requirements for Manufacturing and Processing and Primary Production in 2022 and achieved full recognition in 2023.
The SSCI benchmarking program reinforces trust in sustainability standards that align with the SSCI Benchmark Criteria and achieve SSCI Recognition. This achievement confirms that the SIZA Social Standard and auditing program meet global industry expectations, strengthening SIZA’s credibility in sustainability standards worldwide.
Building on this success, SIZA plans to benchmark its comprehensive Environmental Standards in the near future.
Didier Bergeret, Director of Sustainability, The Consumer Goods Forum, said, “SIZA’s successful completion of the SSCI Monitoring of Continuous Alignment process, demonstrates their ongoing commitment to upholding the highest standards of sustainability. We commend SIZA for their leadership and dedication to continuous improvement in responsible sourcing practices.”
“The SSCI Benchmark is crucial for advancing accountability and sustainability by ensuring third-party schemes meet global standards,” said Retha Louw, CEO of SIZA. “This recognition not only verifies the credibility of the South African program but also enables continuous improvement. Through alignment with the SSCI Benchmark, SIZA offers South African agricultural suppliers an efficient and cost-effective path to sustainability and compliance. This unified approach minimises audit fatigue, reduces costs, and coordinates ethical practices supporting local communities and global Sustainable Development Goals.”

About the Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative
The CGF’s SSCI Coalition builds trust in sustainability standards worldwide by benchmarking third-party auditing and certification programs and recognizing schemes that meet industry expectations. By providing an open-source list of recognized programs, the SSCI delivers clear guidance on which schemes cover key sustainability criteria and apply relevant verification practices. The SSCI improves transparency in the market, facilitates decision-making on schemes at both buyer and supplier level and sets the responsible sourcing expectations for the industry. The Initiative initially focuses on social compliance with the potential to expand the scope to environmental compliance. For more information, visit www.tcgfssci.com.
