SPAIN, 5TH OCTOBER 2024: The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF)’s Product Data Coalition of Action hosted the 1OO·HORIZON conference from 3rd to the 5th October held across various locations in the Catalan countryside.

The conference enables service provider, retail, and manufacturer companies to engage in-depth conversations about the strategic implications of new technologies for their businesses.

The theme of the conference, ‘Intelligent Sustainability‘; an invitation to utilise data in an innovative way, thereby assisting the industry in achieving its sustainability goals and complying with upcoming regulations.

This event followed a special session format –  Screens and presentations were not used for this event challenging the participants to drive positive change through real conversation in an intimate setting.

The event kicked-off on the 3rd October 2024 with a Store Tour where delegates took a journey through the supply and production chain of Cafès Novell – one of the pioneers of sustainable packaging in the coffee industry. The themes of deforestation, geospatial technology and climate change came together for participants in the form of a special demonstration by the ADF Forest Defense Association – local heroes showing how data and technology can help fight deforestation.

Data was the red thread that ran through the sessions where speakers discussed consumer-centric transformations, geospatial technology, retail media, transportation automation, Generative AI, supply-chain resilience and sustainability.

Jonas Sødergran, Nordic Lead Sustainability – Data and AI from Google Cloud highlighted how companies using satellite imagery, AI, and light-weight mobile applications, can get unprecedented visibility to the first mile of their supply chain.

“Clean data room and Generative AI play a key role in enhancing data collaboration and improving mission factors.” – Jonas Sødergran, Nordic Lead Sustainability – Data and AI from Google Cloud

The conference ended with a day of roundtable discussions and workshops of the CGF’s Product Data and End-to-End Value Chain (E2E) Steering Committee to set the agenda and key priorities of the Coalition of Action. The group agreed to concrete actions around the migration to QR codes for product identification and data exchange to better support analysis and ESG reporting.

Today, featured two presentations, the first by Justin Honaman, Head, Worldwide Retail & Consumer Goods Go-To-Market (GTM) Amazon, John Phillips SVP of Customer Supply Chain & Global Go-To-Market at PepsiCo addressed ways to enhance communication and the value proposition for 2D labelling in the retail sector. The second presentation by Leontien Hasselman-Plugge, Chief Executive Officer, ImpactBuying covered the challenges and implications of supply chain sustainability, with a focus on the importance of transparency and due diligence.

For next year the E2E and product data teams are working on a “new Innovation lab” to collaboratively assess the impact of new technologies like Generative AI and Internet of Things (IoT)  to increase efficiency within supply chains.
