On March 25th, Ignacio Gavilan, Director of Sustainability at The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), joined a panel at The Future of Food USA, organised by Innovation Forum. Ignacio, who oversees the CGF’s Coalition Food Waste was invited to moderate a panel “Global food waste and the SDGs: How can companies reduce and eliminate food waste in the supply chain” and to share his thoughts on the industry’s role in solving the food waste problem and progress so far.
Ignacio was joined in the discussion by Julie Poitras-Saulnier, CEO and Co-founder of Loop Mission, Molly Laverty, Senior Sustainability Manager at Del Monte Foods and Jessica Meisinger, North American Sustainability Lead at Merck. The panellists had an engaging discussion and looked at where the majority of food waste is coming from along supply chains, as well as the benefits of circular food systems as a practical and timely solution to tackling food waste at the source. They shared best practice case studies of food waste reduction programmes.
