Our Commitment to the Industry

Members of the CGF Product Data Coalition of Action commit to driving retailers and platforms to embrace and promote the use of unique IDs by all suppliers. Furthermore, the Coalition commits to encouraging all brand owners to upload 7 defining product attributes to a central registry for all live GTINs, by the target dates required in each market. Also, all companies part of the coalition are to support and implement the Global Data Model architecture. Finally, companies part of the Coalition that are willing to test DataPorts and other disruptive technologies commit to sharing best practices.

Project Updates

  • Verified by GS1: The capability for brand owners to upload 7 defining product attributes to a central registry to ensure that a product can be authenticated by trading partners has grown fast and is now available in 70 countries, while the possibility to retrieve product information and to verify a product’s identity is currently live in almost 50 markets. The central registry already contains millions of GTINs with core product information. A free trial version of the service is also available on gs1.org.

Global Data Model: Global Data Model (GDM) is an open standard developed and written in collaboration with GS1, which defines globally the same core data set for listing in retailer and marketplace customer offers. The simplification is expected to drive operational efficiency. The project has come to a successful conclusion, report available upon request.

  • Two-Dimensional Barcodes: The priority has been to raise awareness of the ambition to migrate by 2027 towards one single code on pack with multiple benefits such as POS checkout, web access, and other business process efficiencies. To this end, several educational materials have been developed including an interactive tool to explore the benefits and types of 2D barcodes, a “getting started” guide and several case studies.
