90% of the consumer goods industry’s emissions sit outside direct company operations , i.e., across the supply chain (scope 3). Through our collaboration with Race to Zero Taskforce member companies under the CGF Race to Zero accelerator programme, we know that supplier / agricultural emissions are the primary scope 3 decarbonization challenge facing consumer industries. Decarbonizing land & ag emissions is critical as they make up ~70% of the food sector’s total footprint. To make meaningful progress on the Race to Zero and secure our industry’s future, we must transition away from the exploitation of nature and towards nature positive. Similarly, we must move from traditional to regenerative agriculture (‘regen ag’) practices.
This transition is certain to be challenging, and although there are hundreds of tools, partnerships, initiatives, and consortia available to help, the landscape is highly complex. In response, we have created the Climate x Nature x Ag Ecosystem Map, a curated mapping of industry assets (i.e., technology platforms and industry alliances) that gives consumer industries companies an easier, more efficient way to get started or accelerate progress on regen ag.
Users can quickly access the most useful tools for decarbonizing and disclosing on Scope 3 climate, nature and agriculture impacts and discover new insights about the landscape for scaling nature-positive, net zero agriculture.
The pressure is mounting for companies to decarbonize their value chains quickly and equitably. In the lead up to this year’s Global Stocktake at COP28 to assess the world’s collective progress towards Net Zero, companies are still struggling to reach targets – 93% are at risk of missing their net zero targets . Further, reaching net zero is no longer just a carbon and climate story – companies must also embed nature, biodiversity, and communities in their transitions.
The tool is organized according to the Race to Zero criteria which outlines the steps along the decarbonization journey – starting with guidance (Pledge), target-setting (Plan) and through to implementation (Proceed), data management and reporting (Publish). – to support users wherever they may be focused.
Results can be filtered according to geography, commodity, impact topic area, sub-industries / user group for ease-of-navigation. Each asset includes a descriptive one-pager summarizing key details.
