This initiative, spearheaded by GS1, aims to transition from 1D to 2D barcodes by 2027, enhancing global commodity circulation and trade. Zhejiang Province, a hub of technological innovation, has established the world’s first GM2D demonstration area, leveraging digital advancements in cold chain protection, food traceability, and product regulation. The report details the province’s success in issuing millions of 2D barcodes, improving supply chain efficiency, and ensuring food safety through the Zhejiang Food Traceability Chain. This project not only optimises management processes but also promotes international cooperation in the digital economy, setting a global standard for the adoption of 2D barcode technology.
