Co-hosted by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), as part of the World Economic Forum (WEF) series, the session ‘Leveraging Business action to Deliver Healthy and Sustainable Diets’, focused on the WBA’s Food and Agriculture Benchmark progress -the private sector accountability mechanism for 350 of the largest food companies across the value chain, and on WBCSD’s Healthy and Sustainable Diets Roadmap, which sets out the overarching transformational targets, key action areas and business-led solutions required to achieve food systems change and provide healthy and sustainable diets for all by 2030 and 2050.
On 24 November, Sharon Bligh, Healthier Lives Director at The Consumer Goods Forum was invited to join a panel of the virtual Bold Actions for Food as a Force for Good summit, a virtual pre-event in support of UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) 2021.
The session brought together panelists from Kellogg Company and IKEA as well as representatives from the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and FAIRR Initiative, with a focus on providing healthy and sustainable diets to all, produced responsibly, within planetary boundaries. During the session, Sharon, who is an official member of Action Track 1 (ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all) for the UNFSS, talked about the main learnings from the existing efforts CGF members and stakeholders are taking to support healthier and more sustainable lifestyles, with the Collaboration for Healthier Lives initiatives running across 14 countries around the world, and highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration and ambition in scaling up and achieving long-lasting change. She also talked about the Workforce Nutrition Alliance, co-founded by the CGF and the GAIN, which aims to support employers to adopt and expand workforce nutrition programmes and impact 3 million employees in their organisations and supply chains by 2025.
The session aimed to contextualise the need to transform food systems, mobilise business leaders and stakeholders on the need to accelerate private sector action, and collaboration across stakeholders groups, as well as to inspire people to scale up actions ahead of the Food Systems Summit and Nutrition for Growth Summits in 2021.
