The Consumer Goods Forum and GS1 have published a two-page Quick Start Guide to help companies better understand the three strategic initiatives they are working on to address the weaknesses of today’s data exchange processes and to ensure that products are represented as well in the digital world as they are in the physical world—with multiple benefits for the industry such as simplified listings, reduced time to market, increased consumer transparency and reduced counterfeiting.

The Product Data Coalition, launched earlier this year as part of the CGF’s approach to organise members into CEO-led Coalitions of Action, aims to address two fundamental weaknesses in the industry’s data exchange processes: a) poor quality product data, which has led to lost sales and eroding consumer trust, especially in ecommerce; and b) a plethora of inconsistent approaches to exchanging product data, which results in CGF members incurring huge unnecessary costs to create and exchange those data.

To address these issues, the 25 members of the Product Data Coalition and GS1 are collaborating on three initiatives including: GTIN Ubiquity, Verified by GS1 and the GS1 Global Data Model.

Download the Quick Start Guide for an overview of these initiatives, as well as a step-by-step guide to getting started.
